'Blue Water Cruiser' is often inappropriately used to describe larger sailing yachts. In this case the Nicholson 39 can live up to this title. Long keeled, ketch rigged with safe centre cockpit, she was designed and equipped to cross oceans whilst providing decent accommodation and performance.
With 6 berths offered over two cabins and saloon she is the ideal family cruiser. The cruising couple with occasional guests will be equally at home.
There have been some significant upgrades during her present ownership including new decks, new standing rigging, new propeller, and upgraded sheet winches to name but a few.

Mechanical
The engine is a 54hp Tempest which is based on the Ford 2401E York, an industrial unit designed to run and run. PRM 3:1 reduction gearbox driving a stainless steel shaft and 3-bladed fixed propeller. Deep sea seal replaced in 2018. The engine has been regularly maintained with most recent in September 2024.
There was a new fresh water pump fitted in July 2023. Engine start panel mounted in cockpit with single engine lever control. Fuel is stored in a 250 litre tank.
Electrical
12/240V systems on board. 3x12V batteries providing engine start and domestic power. These were replaced in 2022 and are recharged via the engine alternator, battery charger or solar trickle charger.

Rigging
Ketch rigged sail plan with keel stepped main mast and deck stepped mizzen. Stainless steel standing rigging replaced in 2017. Terylene, braid on braid running rigging. All lines are operated at masts. Vessel rigged for spinnaker/cruising chute including associated rigging and poles. New genoa sheet winches installed in 2022 by Gosport boatyard.

Accommodation
Below decks is well appointed with a sleeping cabin fore and aft, companionable saloon and large galley.
The main saloon is entered from the cockpit. Full standing headroom throughout and an interior fit out comprising of solid teak trim and teak veneered marine ply. The saloon upholstery is a hard wearing leatherette.
Starting at the rear you will find the ensuite owners cabin. This has an offset double bed with horseshoe seating area and additional cupboards. There is an opening deck hatch for light, ventilation or escape. Storage below all berths and access to the ensuite heads. This has a Lavac sea toilet, moulded sink unit and pull out shower. and sump pump out.
The galley is situated on the starboard side in the access passage to the rear cabin. The benefit of this location is plentiful work surfaces and a secure area where you can cook and prepare food whilst on passage. There is a double stainless steel sink, pressurised fresh water and a gas fuelled gimballed oven with 3 burner hob. Front loading fridge with ice compartment. Plentiful storage in below counter and head height mounted units.
Saloon with L-shaped seating to port and a settee to starboard of a central drop leaved table. Chart table and switch panel at rear of portside seating.
Bow cabin with double V berth. Heads situated on port side between the saloon and the forcabin with wardrobe opposite on starboard side.
Heads has a Lavac sea toilet and pull out shower.

Construction
GRP constructed sailing vessel with heavy lay up hull and superstructure. Central cockpit with wheel steering and locker storage. Skeg mounted rudder. Under water areas antifouled and anodes changed in August 2024.
Spacious side decks with flexi teak laid in June 2017. Raised bulwarks finished with teak capping. Deck scuppers.
GRP super structure with port lights and deck hatches to accommodation. Stainless steel stem head fitting with double anchor rollers. Large capacity chain locker with lid.
Rear deck with access to bathing ladder. Cockpit with full enclosure.
